Bernadetta Schulze
Bernadetta A. Schulze, 88, New Bremen, died at 4:10 a.m. April 29, 2014, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born July 17, 1925, in McCartyville, to August and Elizabeth Tuente Riethman. On June 18, 1947, she married Linus Schulze in McCartyville, and he preceded her in death March 11, 2011.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Treva Schulze, Lakeview, Ron and Linda Schulze, Montezuma, Dennis and Pam Schulze, New Bremen, Thomas and Kelly Schulze, New Bremen, Steven and Carla Schulze, New Bremen, and Allan and Tash Schulze, Montezuma; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Ann Wenning, New Bremen, Norbert Riethman, Covington, Linus (MaryAnn) Riethman, St. Marys, Homer Riethman, McCartyville, and Helen Westerbeck, Sidney; and a sister-in-law, Judy Riethman, Anna.
Preceding her in death was a brother, Aloys Riethman.
She was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. Faithfully serving for 65 years, she was a member of the church choir, the St. Ann Altar Sodality, the church prayer chain and often led and prayed the rosary before and during services at the church. She was a charter member of the American Legion Post Auxiliary of Osgood and was a multi-gallon blood donor to the American Red Cross. Before she was married, she worked at the former Minster Box factory and then helped her husband on the family farm, raising chickens and selling eggs to numerous people in the area.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church, at which time the rosary will be prayed.
