Effie Smith
Effie E. "Tiny" Smith, 85, Fort Recovery, died Feb. 27, 2014, at Persimmon Ridge, Portland, Ind.
She was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Muncie, Ind. to the late Alfred and Dora Staggs Smith. On March 13, 1971, she married Ray Smith, who died Aug. 3, 2006.
Surviving are a daughter, Diana (Tom) Westgerdes, Fort Recovery; a son, Stephen (Phyllis) Miller, Fort Recovery; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; in-laws, Bob (Helen) Smith, Fort Recovery, Linda Wood, Ansonia, Phyllis (Jim) Burns, West Alexandria, and Dick Smith, Fort Recovery; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a former husband, Dorsey M. Miller; three sisters, Leora (Leo) Nafe, Mabel (Charles) Hellis and Ludy (William) Ring; two brothers, Clyde Smith and Alfred Smith; and in-laws, Jim Smith, Stanley Smith, Jean Smith and "Woody" Wood.
She worked for several years at the former Meinerding's Restaurant, Fort Recovery, and was co-owner of the former Smitty's Bar, Fort Recovery. She was a charter member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Chapter 6515, Fort Recovery and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, the Rev. Dan Scalf officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Calling is 1-5 p.m. Sunday and 1-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be directed to The Hospice Group at Persimmon Ridge Rehabilitation Center, Portland, Ind.
