Virginia Backs
Virginia "Ginny" Louella Backs, 78, Lima, passed away Dec. 29, 2013, after an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 11, 1935, in Mendon, to Mildred and John Lloyd Bader. On Sept. 14, 1955, she married Joseph L. Backs, who is deceased.
Surviving are seven children, Michael (Susan) Backs, Allison (Mark) Jones, Anthony (Judy) Backs, Jean (Patrick) Backs-Hunkler, Theresa Bennett, Elizabeth (Doug) Eaton and Joseph P. (Mandy) Backs; 16 grandchildren, Aaron Backs, Delphie Backs, Mike (Elizabeth) Jones, Luke (Anna) Jones, Audrey Jones, Christopher Backs, Ryan Backs, Ben Hunkler, Eli Hunkler, Andy Backs, Kate Bennett, Will Eaton, Sarah Eaton, Bridget Backs, Charlie Backs and Olivia Backs; one great-grandchild, Luna Jones; a niece, Polly Zeigler; a nephew, Calvin "June" Scott Jr.; a cousin, Lanna Samaniego; and many more nieces and nephews.
Also deceased is her sister, Rolla Lee Scott.
She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, Celina, in 1953, where she was valedictorian. She attended the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton.
She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Lima, where she was active in the Altar Rosary Society, she volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Society, served as a Girl Scout leader and participated in the funeral dinner ministry. She also served as a Red Cross volunteer and was an avid Buckeyes fan. She loved spending time with friends and family and enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble and crossword puzzles.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Charles, the Rev. Stephen Blum officiating.
Calling is 3-7 p.m. Thursday with a wake service at 7 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima.
