Emory Michel
Emory B. Michel, 85, a longtime resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, St. Marys, died at 8:05 p.m. Nov. 6, 2013, at Otterbein.
He was born Oct. 5, 1926, in Nova, the son of William and Ruth Brouder Michel. On Dec. 23, 1950, he married Janet Consla in Beach City, and she died Jan. 3, 2008.
Survivors are his nephews, David Brown, Dayton, and Gary Thomas, Old Saybrook, Mass; a niece, Ruthann Swenson, Boston, Mass.; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served during World War II. He was a graduate of Hiram College with a degree in chemistry. He had a successful career as a chemical engineer and metallurgist for Thomas Strip Division of Pittsburgh Steel and at RCA, the precursor to the Harris Corporation. He retired from Harris Corp. in 1989, and he and Janet moved to Otterbein St. Marys in 1990.
He had been very active at Trumbull New Theatre in Warren and Fort Findlay Playhouse, Findlay. He served as past president of the Ohio Community Theater Association. He was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, St. Marys, and was active in bible study groups at Otterbein and in Findlay.
Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Meyer Community Chapel on the campus of Otterbein, the Rev. Vince Lavieri officiating. Private family burial rites will be held.
Calling is one hour prior to services Tuesday in the Meyer Community Chapel.
Contributions may be given to the Otterbein St. Marys Benevolent Fund.
