June Slade
June Scheer Slade, 93, formerly of New Bremen, died Oct. 31, 2013, at her home in Saratoga, Calif.
She was born Feb. 15, 1920, near New Bremen to William and Alma Moeller Scheer. On April 16, 1961, she married Rolf Slade at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, and he survives in Saratoga.
Also surviving are a daughter, Ann (Slade) Davis; two grandchildren, Ben and Hannah Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The youngest of six daughters, she was the last surviving member of her family.
Deceased are sisters, Mabel Abbott, Edna Slife, Corrine Dicke, Yvonne Brockman and Marjorie Howell; and a son-in-law, Murray Davis.
She was a 1938 graduate of New Bremen High School. Prior to her marriage and subsequent move to California, she was employed at the former Seiberling Latex and Crown Controls, both of New Bremen. Her love for children suited her perfectly to become a childcare provider for many years to many families. She felt especially grateful to be able to watch her grandchildren grow and be a part of their lives.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at West Hope Presbyterian Church in California. A similar service will take place at St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, at a later date.
Inurnment will take place at the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
