Shelomith (Shomy) D. Eichenauer, 78, Montgomery County, died very peacefully in the early morning of Aug. 1, 2013, with only her husband at her side in the tranquil environment of her home.

She was born July 20, 1935, in Helena. On Aug. 17, 1955, she married H. Stanley "Stan" Eichenauer at Fostoria High Street Methodist Church, in a ceremony officiated by her father and brother.

Also surviving are her three children, Konita Jo (Rev. John) Hodge of Mapletown, Pa., Kevin Lee (Bette) Eichenauer of Newark and Kent Alan (Connie) Eichenauer of Urbana; four grandchildren, Jamis F. Eichenauer of Dublin, Kathryn E. Hodge of Bradford, Pa., Kile A. (Ashley) Eichenauer of Cygnet and Jeffrey P. Hodge of Washington, Pa.; her sister, Naarah T. (Rev. Edwin) Griswold of Sun City, Ariz.; and her brother, the Rev. Heth H. (Karen) Corl of Beavercreek.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Daniel D. and the Rev. Inez P. Lasley Corl; her stepmother, Hannah J. Brown Corl; her brother, the Rev. Javan R. Corl; a sister-in-law, Neva J. (Whituhn); and a grandson, Brock A. Eichenauer.

She graduated from Fostoria High School, and began her working career in the office of Dr. H.P. Ulicny. She stepped aside from the workforce for nearly 10 years while assisting her husband in the pastoral ministry and managing a family with three young children, along with two foster youth. Later, she worked as a licensed practical nurse in Absher Nursing Home, she was a secretary for the Erie County Auto Club, and the United Methodist Children's Home and Center for Vocational and Technical Education at The Ohio State University. Upon moving to Dayton in 1974, she worked in the admitting office at Good Samaritan Hospital, then for 19 years at United Theological Seminary, including 15 years as circulation manager in the library.

During her life, she assumed very active roles in several United Methodist Churches in Ohio including Fostoria, Portage, Sandusky, Westerville, Fairview and Englewood.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Aug. 17 at Concord United Methodist Church in Englewood, the Rev. Dr. Stephen Gill officiating.

Calling is 5-7 p.m. Aug. 16 at Concord United Methodist Church in Englewood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Eichenauer Fund at the Dayton Foundation, the Eichenauer Fund at The Ohio State University, or the Front Porch Ministry of Community Table, Inc.
