WSU-LC wins ORCC tourney title

It took just two seasons for the Wright State University-Lake Campus baseball team to move to the top of the Ohio Regional College Conference mountain.
The Lakers won the ORCC tournament on Sunday by defeating Miami University-Hamilton 4-2 in the championship game at Beavers Field in Lancaster. The Lakers end their season with an impressive 19-9 campaign.
"It's just a testament to how hard this team has worked throughout the year," said Lakers head coach Rob Howell. "For it to all come together in two weekends and beat a really good Hamilton team twice (after losing all four regular season games to the Harriers) speaks volumes of the players we have in the program."
Hamilton led 1-0 going into the third inning when the Lakers tied the score. In the fourth, the Lakers went in front with two big runs, the winning run scored on a squeeze bunt by Silas Shear.
After WSU-LC battled through some jams in the fifth and sixth, Celina grad Kyle Markle singled in Dillon Bell in the top of the seventh for an insurance run. Jacob Burk then shut out the Harriers in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win for the Lakers.
"The key to the tournament was execution during the game and the overall heart of this team," said Howell. "There was no quit."
Burk allowed just four hits and two walks over seven innings to get the win, striking out three Harriers along the way.
Bell, Tyler Zimmerman and Versailles grad Ethan Bruns each had two hits for the Lakers.
