Gordon Geeslin
Gordon L. Geeslin, 77, Celina, died at 10:50 p.m. Feb. 5, 2013, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born June 14, 1935, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to William M. and Lola Lee Burgess Geeslin. On Oct. 20, 1959, he married Connie Sue Hamilton in Winchester, Ind., and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Eloise (Michael) Vogel of St. Marys; a son, James W. Geeslin of Coldwater; three brothers, Leslie (Jane) Geeslin of Rushylvania, John (Mary) Geeslin of Cuba, Ala., and Truman (Pat) Geeslin of Lexington, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a granddaughter, Lauren Geeslin, and a sister, Eluoise Geeslin.
He graduated in 1954 from Orville High School in Selma, Ala., and attended the University of Toledo. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Higbee battleship.
He was a licensed, professional land surveyor in Ohio and Indiana and maintained a Celina office for many years. He attended Hillsdale Baptist Church, St. Marys, where he served as an usher, trustee, and pulpit and building committees member.
He was also a member of Moose Lodge #1473, American Legion Post #210 and VFW Post #5713, all of Celina.
He always enjoyed his work, and was very proud of finding and recording many survey cornerstones. Uncovering a stone was the highlight of his day, and on those occasions he would place a container with his business card and a few coins in the hole prior to covering it. He estimated that he had located several hundred survey cornerstones during his working years.
Funeral rites are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Tony Richmond officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
