Gladys Scales
Gladys Barnes Scales, 90, Celina, died Nov. 24, 2012, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born April 15, 1922, in Somerset, Ky., to Henry and Rushia Lewis Barnes. On June 14, 1947, she married James Thomas Scales, who died Nov. 24, 1996.
Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Kay Hole, St. Marys, and Linda Susan Scales, Dayton; three sisters, Pauline Snyder, Dayton, Mary (Bud) Moening, Dayton, and Joyce Kunka, Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Simone Scales, St. Clairsville; and a grandson.
Also deceased are a son-in-law, Lloyd James Hole; a brother, Clinton Barnes; two sisters, Nora Barnes and Virginia Hartings; and four brothers-in-law.
She was a 1941 graduate of Shopville High School in Kentucky. She was a homemaker and had worked at Delco Products before her marriage.
She was a long-time member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was active on various committees. She also worked as a poll worker for the Mercer County Board of Elections.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Jonathan Exman officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina.
