Waynestock returns to St. Marys church

ST. MARYS - Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys will host its second annual Waynestock concert on Aug. 18 with two nationally-known Christian artists featured.
Dara Maclean, this year's nominee for Best New Artist of the Year at the Gospel Music Awards, will perform along with 2010 nominee, Johnny Diaz. The pair will perform with several local acts at the event, which begins at 2 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m.
Concert organizer Keith Jacobs said proceeds from the concert will benefit the Family Life Center, an Auglaize County pro life organization, and the Haitian Interdenominational Shelter Home for Children in Haiti.
Tickets for the event cost $10; concessions will be sold. Jacobs said attendees don't have to stay all day.
"People can come and go as they please," he said. "They can come early to watch one band, then leave and come back later to watch a different band."
Local artists performing with Maclean and Diaz include Hannah Beck of Lima; the church youth band, Never Sleep; More Than a Show, Sidney; Ian Hayes, Lima; the church band Awaken; and St. Marys native Ron Raspberry.
Waynestock began last year with only local bands performing.
"I felt like God was tugging at me to go a bit bigger and think more out of the box," Jacobs said. "So this year, I began looking for donations from outside St. Marys. I was blown away by the donations from businesses in Celina and Van Wert ... Maybe this is what God wanted me to do."
Tickets are available at the door, at the church office, Minster State Bank in St. Marys, Schwieterman's Pharmacy in St. Marys or online at www.itickets.com. Jacobs warned that any tickets purchased online would include a fee from the website.
The church is located at 130 North Wayne St.
