Helen Schemmel
Helen K. Schemmel, 98, formerly of New Bremen and of Minster, died at 2 a.m. March 10, 2012, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center, Minster, where she had been a resident for five years.
She was born July 27, 1913, in Sidney to Albert and Zita Guissinger Kloeppel. On Nov. 19, 1930, she married William M. Schemmel, who died Jan. 21, 1991.
Surviving are two children, Mary Ellen (Dwight) Kurtzman, Van Wert, and Ronald Schemmel, New Bremen; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three siblings, Gerard and Leonard Kloeppel and infant twin sister Catherine.
She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, and a former member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, New Bremen, where she had been a member of the Ladies Sodality. She was a cook at New Bremen schools and retired from Auglaize School, New Bremen.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Minster church, the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
