Woman injured by brick tossed at windshield

ST. MARYS - A 66-year-old Celina woman suffered serious facial injuries early Saturday morning when a landscaping paver was thrown through the windshield of her car in St. Marys.
Charges are pending against three unidentified juvenile boys who police believe were responsible for the random attack at approximately 1:30 a.m.
The injured woman - reportedly an employee of Celina City Schools - drove herself several blocks to the emergency room at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, Police Chief Greg Foxhoven said.
"We were all pretty amazed that she was able to do that" considering her injuries, he added.
The juvenile suspects include two 15-year-olds and a 17-year-old. Two of the teens were arrested for probation violations and transported to the juvenile detention center in Troy. Charges against all three boys are being reviewed by the Auglaize County prosecutor, Foxhoven said.
"They're looking at significant charges," he said.
Foxhoven said officers also are following up on other leads possibly involving the juveniles but would not release details.
The victim had just left a family member at the St. Marys hospital and was driving west on Spring Street when the paver was hurled at her windshield. The brick "exploded the windshield," struck the woman in the face and landed by her feet, Foxhoven said.
The impact caused the inside rearview mirror to break free and land in the backseat. A second paver also was thrown at her car and struck a rear wheel.
"Fortunately, officers were in the general area and apprehended the juveniles fairly quickly," Foxhoven said.
Deputies from the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office assisted the police department, he added.
