Area law enforcement nab man in cocaine sting

NEW BREMEN - A Dayton man suspected of selling cocaine in New Bremen was arrested Monday night after a four-mile pursuit by officers.

Tyrone Eugene Howard, 31, sped away from numerous law enforcement officers following a traffic stop in a drug sting. He was apprehended minutes later on foot in a nearby creek after crashing his car into a guardrail on state Route 66 about 7 p.m.

Officers seized cash and 10 grams of cocaine with a street value of $1,400.

Howard was charged with two counts of drug trafficking, first- and third-degree felonies. He appeared Tuesday in Auglaize County Municipal Court and was placed on a $150,000 bond with conditions. He remains incarcerated at the county jail.

A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 18.

A male passenger in Howard's Buick Century did not flee from officers and has not been charged in the incident.

Howard came to the small Auglaize County village to deliver cocaine, according to Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon, who did not release details of the investigation.

Participating in the sting were members of the Auglaize-Mercer County Grand Lake Drug Task Force, New Bremen, St. Marys, Wapakoneta and Minster police and Auglaize County Sheriff's deputies.
