Stanley Nagel
Stanley H. Nagel, 85, New Bremen, died at 1:48 a.m. Jan. 19, 2011, at the St. Marys Living Center in St. Marys.
He was born May 16, 1925, in Minster to Charles and Odella Schwieterman Nagel. On Sept. 27, 1953, he married, Betty Joanne Sweitzer, who survives in New Bremen.
Also surviving are three daughters, Cheryl (Carmen) Musto, St. Marys, Brenda (Ed) Thobe, New Bremen, and Darla (Dave) Kelch, New Bremen; a sister, Mary (James) Brown, Minster; a brother, Robert (Donna) Nagel, New Bremen; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, Lucille Schlater and Joan Cort; and six brothers, Wilferd, Herbert, Bernard, Donald, Charles Jr. and Eugene Nagel.
He was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Bennion. He was a charter and lifetime member of the Minster Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he served four terms as post commander. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. of St. Marys, where he was a two-time post commander, and was a life member of the New Bremen American Legion. He retired after 35 years as a machine tool builder at Minster Machine.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial with full military honors from the Minster Firing Squad is at German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Parish Center of the church and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Lake Hospice.
Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen is handling arrangements.
