Pair in jail for theft after traffic stop

By Margie Wuebker
COLDWATER - Two Auglaize County residents face theft charges in the wake of a traffic stop early today near a local business.
Shane P. Irish, 33, and Sara M. Devall, 22, both of 3071/2 E. Spring St., St. Marys, are incarcerated at the Mercer County Adult Detention Center on $7,500 bonds.
Coldwater Patrolman Dan Speckman spotted a suspicious vehicle leaving from behind Lefeld Welding, 600 N. Second St., Coldwater, while on patrol at 3:46 a.m.
Speckman initiated a traffic stop and then obtained a search warrant after noticing the vehicle appeared to be riding low in back suggesting something heavy inside. He found several pieces of scrap metal inside that reportedly came from the business.
The completed report will be turned over to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office for review and the possible filing of additional charges.
Police received assistance from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.
