Rev. Raymond Seifert
Rev. Raymond Seifert, C.PP.S., died of a heart attack at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, at 8:15 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2009, 10 days after his 90th birthday.
He was born September 4, 1919, in Barberton to Edward and Amelia Youngblood Seifert.
Surviving are two brothers, Ivan (Rita) Seifert and Richard (Margaret) Seifert, all of Barberton; five sisters, Helen Petit and Janet (Regis) Paridon, all of Doylestown, Marita (Robert) Zupke, Akron, Carol (Richard) Hoover, Treasure Island, Fla., and Joan (Richard) Wehling, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Deceased are two sisters and their husbands, Evelyn (George) Petit and Ruth (Oliver) Oser; a sister, Miriam Seifert; two brothers and their wives, Donald and Helen Seifert and Robert and Marilyn Seifert; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Petit.
He entered the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1933 and was ordained on Dec. 10, 1944. He spent his years as a priest in parish ministry. After his ordination he was an assistant pastor at St. Augustine Church, Youngstown, Holy Rosary Church, Dayton, St. Francis Xavier Church, St. Joseph, Mo., St. Joseph Church, Colfax, La., and Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Hazard, Ky., where he was appointed pastor in 1959. In 1962, he was named pastor of St. Mark Church, Cincinnati, where he served until he became pastor of St. John the Baptist Church, Glandorf, in 1968. After 11 years in Glandorf, he was named pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Attica, until 1987 when he became pastor of St. Anthony Church. He retired in 1994 to St. Charles Center, Carthagena, and subsequently spent much of his time offering priestly ministry in neighboring parishes. He was active in many church organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, for whom he was a chaplain for many years.
Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. Friday at St. Charles Center, the Rev. Ken Schroeder, officiating. Burial is at the Community cemetery.
Calling is 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at St. Charles with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
A memorial Mass will be held at a later date at Saints Peter and Paul Church, Doylestown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.
Hogenkamp Funeral Home St. Henry is entrusted with arrangements.
