Rev. Werner Verhoff, C.PP.S
Rev. Werner Verhoff, C.PP.S., 92, died at 12:01 a.m. Sept. 10, 2009, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, from complications following a fall.
He was born April 19, 1917, in Kalida to Mathias and Philomena Uphaus Verhoff.
Surviving is a sister-in-law, Lucille Verhoff, Columbia, S.C., and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Ambrose, Victor, Mathias and Br. Michael Verhoff, C.PP.S.; and two sisters, Rosalia Schnipke and Armella Turnwald.
He entered the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1931 and was ordained on May 9, 1943. He spent over 50 years of active ministry as a pastor, including serving at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Burkettsville, 1979-91. He also served at churches in St. Henry, Tulsa, Okla., Newark, Cleveland, Hamilton, Cincinnati and Ottawa.
In 1991 he was named senior associate pastor at Precious Blood Church in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he served until he retired to St. Charles Center in Carthagena in 1999.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Center, the Rev. Angelo Anthony, C.PP.S., presiding. Burial will follow in the community cemetery.
Calling is 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at St. Charles, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry, is handling arrangements.
