Scattered snow showers can be expected this morning along with westerly winds gusting to around 40 mph at times. Temperatures will continue to fall this morning, with readings dropping well below freezing.
Snow accumulations will be a half inch or less. This will result in some slick spots on untreated surfaces as well as bridges and overpasses. Please allow for some extra time to reach your destination this morning. Be prepared for changing road conditions as well as gusty winds.

Jobless rate keeps going up

Local unemployment numbers went up in December and are predicted to go even higher in January.
But those numbers alone may not accurately reflect the problems plaguing the Grand Lake area. Not represented in unemployment statistics are those people whose salaries were cut, hours reduced and benefits taken away. [More]

Rockford resident Hoolie Custer, 94, first heard about the coming Great Depression in 1929 from a buddy who walked up to town from the St. Marys River with a dead muskrat in one hand and a hand axe in the other.
"He asked if I'd learned yet that the stock market crashed. I hadn't, but I sure learned a lot before the Depression was over," says Custer, who was then 15 years old and already a scrappy guy nicknamed Hooligan by his River Rat buddies. [More]

Grand Lake drivers face piles of morning snow and flakes keep falling
More than 5 inches of snow blanketed the Grand Lake area by daybreak today and more continued to fall across the region creating hazardous roadways.
Three area men were charged with disorderly conduct following a series of confrontations at a Celina bar early Sunday morning. One spectator lost a portion of her finger during the melee.
Two daytime robberies near Arcanum and Cridersville on Tuesday have authorities looking for suspects and seeking help from the public.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
Five new inductees will be introduced on Saturday night at Fort Site Fieldhouse as the Fort Recovery High School Athletic Hall of Fame will hold its third annual enshrinement ceremony before the varsity boys basketball game with Greenville.

New Knoxville evened its record at 7-7 after making the snowy trip to Middle Point and posting a 60-32 win over Lincolnview on Tuesday night. The Lancers drop to 2-11 with the loss.
