Max Evans
Max E. Evans, 77, of Spencerville, died at 3:14 a.m. Dec. 18, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Spencerville, to Roy F. and Mary E. Jamison Evans. On July 7, 1951, he married Janet M. Koenig, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Mike (Deborah), Spencerville, and Jeri (Paul) Frair, Hilliard; a brother, John W. (Ruth), Spencerville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter, Lucinda Jo.
He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1985 as a chief petty officer and had served in both the Navy and Naval Reserve as a radar detector serviceman for 36 years. He also worked for R.F. Evans & Sons Marathon Oil Distributors, owning his own route, and was a truck driver for R. & W. Service System, Taylor, Mich. He also was a bus driver for Spencerville schools for seven years. He was a member of Spencerville United Church of Christ. He was active with M.E. Evans Horse Racing Stables, Spencerville, and was a 40-year member of the United States Trotting Association, and member of the Ohio Harness Horseman's Association, the Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post, Spencerville, and the Eagles Aerie, Lima.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Stephanie Haines officiating. Burial is at Spencerville Cemetery.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
