Walter Baney
Walter E. "Bud" Baney, 89, Lima, died at 4:17 a.m., on April 8, 2008, at Wyngate Assisted Living in Lima.
He was born March 14, 1919 to Walter R. and Eva Hutchinson Baney. On Feb. 24, 1942, he married the former Katherine "Kay" Fast in Portland, Maine. She survives in Lima.
Also surviving are two sons: Richard (Terri), Lake Wales, Fla. and Ronald (Barbara), Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; a daughter, Susan (John) Ohl, Lima; a sister, Betty Patterson, Lima; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Wille.
He worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad and was retired from Teledyne Ohio Steel. A member of First Baptist Church in Lima, he was a life member of the National Rifel Association. He organized the Lima SABRES Shooting Association and served as president. He was a lifetime master in high power rifle competition in the NRA and a life member of the Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Atlantic aboard the U.S.S. Melville and participated in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy, France.
Service is 11 a.m. April 19 at the church, the Rev. Richard Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
Calling is one hour prior to service at the church.
