Kathleen Brickner
Kathleen M. Brickner, 58, Van Wert, died at 8:15 a.m. April 1, 2008, at her residence. Death was due to cancer.
She was born April 9, 1949, in Lima to Raymond and Ruth Powers Studer, who are deceased. On March 16, 1974, she married James C. Brickner, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Carl Raymond (Megan), Vandalia, and Michael Edward (Kathryn), Willowick; four brothers, Bill (Chris) Studer, Cincinnati, James (Judy) Studer, Stamford, Conn., John (Sandy) Studer, Raleigh, N.C., and Park (Lois) Miller, Las Vegas, Nev.; and a granddaughter.
Deceased is a sister, Anne Marie Miller.
She taught seventh- and eighth-grade language arts at Lincoln Junior High School for 20 years, was curriculum director at Van Wert City Schools for 10 years and was co-director of the West Central Ohio Regional Professional Development Centers for six years. She was a past senior regent for Van Wert Chapter 7 of the Women of the Moose and a member of its College of Regents. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for Professional Educators, the Good Times Book Club and Van Wert Chapter of the American Association of University Women, serving as a past president. She graduated from Lima Central Catholic High School, graduated from Mary Manse College in Toledo and received a master's degree in reading from Bowling Green State University.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert, where she chaired the liturgical committee and served as a lector and eucharistic minister.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Revs. Mike Zacharias and Keith Stripe officiating.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert. Burial is at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Contributions can be made to the Van Wert Community Concert Band, the church, the Van Wert Community Health Professionals Hospice or the Black Swamp Area Council Boy Scouts of America.
