Peter Baltes, 86, of Versailles, died at 9:30 a.m. March 11, 2008, at home.

He was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Frenchtown, to William and Clara Bey Baltes. On April 10, 1948, he married Rose Veronica Reitz Baltes, who died Jan. 22, 2008.

Surviving are two sons, Tony (Monica), Versailles, and Michael (Mary Eileen), Doylestown, Pa.; four daughters, Kathy (Ned) Hemmelgarn and Eileen Wilker, all of Celina, Jan (Ned) Kleinhenz, Beavercreek, and Donna (John) Matlak, Grand Rapids, Mich.; a brother, Will (Rita), of Versailles; two sisters, Ann (Art) Bergman, Maplewood, and Pat (Norman) Magoto, Dayton; a brother-in-law, Bill O'Brien; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Deceased are a brother Paul and his wife, Esther; two sisters, Jane O'Brien and Rose Baltes; a brother-in-law, Jim Trentman; and a son-in-law, Martin Wilker.

He was a farmer, served in the U.S. Army Air Core First Air Commandos in World War II and a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Frenchtown.

Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, the Rev. David Vincent officiating. Burial, with military services, is at the Holy Family church cemetery in Frenchtown.

Calling is 5-8 p.m. Friday and 9:30-10 a.m. at Bailey-Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles.
