Japanese comic books with unique look spur formation of group in St. Marys
By Janie Southard
ST. MARYS - A group of local teens decided last summer to create their own comic book, but it's certainly not your grandfather's idea of a comic book - this one will be manga.
In Japanese, manga (MAHN-gah) translates to "whimsical pictorial." Marcus Baker, 16, of St. Marys calls it young adult cartoons, but actually there are numerous manga genres each with its own name. Seijkin manga is comics for adult males. Gekiga manga is comics on serious topics for mature audiences. [More]

COLDWATER - Appropriately, it will be two Mercer County teams playing for the championship of the inaugural Mercer Health Holiday Classic.
Fort Recovery used hot shooting and solid defense to dispatch Fort Loramie, 54-39, in the opening game of the tournament. The host Coldwater Cavaliers had no trouble moving on, pummeling Waynesfield-Goshen 66-29 in the nightcap Friday night at The Palace. [More]

MARIA STEIN - The Marion Local Flyers looked a lot like an older model car in Friday night's non-conference game against the Newton Indians.
They took awhile to get going, but once they did they purred like a kitten.
SIDNEY - The New Bremen Cardinals survived a wild fourth quarter on Friday night and came home with a 63-61 non-league win over the Lehman Catholic Cavaliers.
