J. Phillip Pfenning
J. Phillip Pfenning, 81, 241 N. Spruce St., St. Marys, died at 12:45 a.m. Dec. 11, 2007, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Aug. 30, 1926, in St. Marys, to Vincent and Cornelia Snyder Pfenning. On Oct. 2, 1952, he married Mary Jo Suchland, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, John (Penny), New Knoxville, Thomas (Julie), New Bremen, and Michael, St. Marys; a daughter, Julie (Doug) Metz, St. Marys; and three grandchildren.
Deceased are an infant son, Phillip; a brother, Paul; a sister, Joan Burke; and a granddaughter.
He was a certified master watch maker and owned and operated Pfenning Jewelry in St. Marys for more than 50 years. He also was owner of Phil's Clock Repair. A 1945 graduate of Memorial High School, St. Marys, and Elgin Institute in Chicago, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of American Legion Post 323 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, both of St. Marys. He also was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of St. Marys.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Anthony Cutcher officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, West High Street, St. Marys.

Jere D. Bond, 54, 3601 state Route 703 E., Celina, died Dec. 7, 2007, at his home. Death was due to natural causes. [More]
