New Bremen lock dedicated
Photo by Mark Pummell/The Daily Standard

Restored Lock One along the Miami and Erie Canal in New Bremen is shown in this aerial view prior to dedication ceremonies held Thursday night in conjunction with the community's annual Christmas tree lighting. A life-size Nativity scene decorates the island area while gas lights reminiscent of the canal era illuminate the banks. The total cost of the project was $1.25 million with all but $900,000 covered by an Ohio Department of Transportation enhancement grant and matching money from the New Bremen Historic Association.
