Rev. John Wine
The Rev. John C. Wine, 88, 327 Candlewood Place, St. Marys, died at 12:58 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
He was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Winchester, Ind., to Otis and Nellie Oxley Wine. On June 1, 1948, he married Ruth E. Watson who died Sept. 27, 2007.
Surviving are four sons, Rev. David (Donna) of Bourbonnais, Ill., Rev. Daniel (Cindy) of White Lake, Mich., Rev. Dale (Linda) of Cincinnati, and Dr. Douglas (Clarinda) of St. Marys; a sister, Mary Driskell of Marion, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are five brothers, Walter, Pete, Howard, Bob and Earl; and two sisters, Ruth Laskey and Helen Wigmore.
He served as minister at Nazarene Churches in Portland, Hartford City, Auburn and Anderson, Ind., as minister of visitation at First Nazarene Church and Wayne Street United Methodist Church, both of St. Marys, and in various capacities at 15 churches in the St. Marys area. He retired as director of the Auglaize County Department of Human Services in Wapakoneta.
A 1937 graduate of Winchester High School and a 1948 graduate of Olivet Nazarene College in Bourbonnais, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in St. Marys, past president of the ministerial association in Anderson, district secretary of the Northeast District of the Nazarene Church in Indiana and a founding board member of Agape Ministries in St. Marys.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Church of the Nazarene in St. Marys, the Revs. Daniel Wine and Ted Smith officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
