Wilbert Mescher
Wilbert L. Mescher, 77, formerly of McCartyville, died at 5:56 p.m. July 24, 2007, at his daughter's residence in Seattle, Wash.
He was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Yorkshire, to Joseph and Katherine Walterbusch Mescher. On June 29, 1963, he married Carol L. Bergman, who died April 26, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Mark (Sari), Newton, Mass.; three daughters, Ann, Seattle, Wash., Karen (Michael) Ballas, Fort Loramie, and Marlene (Wolf) Ritchek, Princton, N.J.; four brothers, Richard (Caroline), North Star, Linus (Margaret), Portland, Ind., Alfred (Janet), Troy, and Joseph (Mary Ann), St. Henry; three sisters, Norma (Ivo) Brackman, Fort Recovery, Rita Siefring, Burkettesville, and Alfreda (Glen) Anderson, San Antonio, Texas; a brother-in-law, Len Otte, Cassella; and a sister-in-law, Olivia, Osgood.
Deceased are two brothers, Vincent and Norbert; and a sister, Loretta Otte.
He retired as a teacher in St. Marys, Coldwater and Sidney schools and also was a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War, a graduate of Ohio State University, attended the University of Dayton, University of Illinois and received his masters degree at the Wright State University. He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, McCartyville, American Legion, Osgood, and the National Rifle Association.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Patrick Welsh officiating. Burial is at St. Martin Cemetery, Osgood.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
