Geese on the run
Photo by Jason Snyder/The Daily Standard

Division of Wildlife officials and a host of local volunteers along state Route 703 in Celina during the agency's annual goose roundup used a helicopter, boats and vehicles to round up and band about 600 Canada geese Wednesday. Each year the event takes place at numerous locations around the lake in Auglaize and Mercer counties. The bands give wildlife officials a lot of information to help manage the goose population such as the geese's gender, how long they live and where they migrate. The roundup also is a time when residents can call the division and ask them to remove what are referred to as "nuisance" geese that encroach on residential and business areas and pepper their properties with droppings.
