mwuebker@dailystandard.com Two men have been indicted on charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor in unrelated cases.
In addition, a trial date has been set in another case involving a local man facing multiple charges, including three counts of pandering.
Jaysen J. Weyandt, 31, 116 Drake St., Mendon, faces one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor, a fourth-degree felony.
Former Celina resident Jessie Lee Williams, 20, of Decatur, Ind., is charged with pandering sexually-oriented material involving a minor, a second-degree felony.
Weyandt allegedly purchased pornography featuring a minor as one of the participants from a Dallas, Texas, company. An agent with the Ohio Internet Crime Unit contacted the Mercer County Sheriff's Office this fall after Weyandt's credit card number allegedly was found among hundreds of others during execution of a search warrant at the Texas company. The warrant reportedly came in the wake of a two-year investigation.
Weyandt remains free on his own recognizance pending further proceedings in Mercer County Common Pleas Court. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
The charge against Williams stems from an incident that occurred in the fall of 2003, alleging he created, photographed, filmed, reproduced or published material showing a minor participating or engaging in sexual activity.
The investigation apparently began in St. Marys but police officers subsequently determined the offense occurred in Celina. Williams allegedly took photographs of a girl he knew and later distributed them via e-mail.
Williams, remains free on his own recognizance pending an arraignment hearing Friday before Judge Jeffrey Ingraham. If convicted, he could be sentenced to eight years in prison and fined $15,000.
John "Jack" Goyman, 48, 314 W. Warren St., has waived his right to a speedy trial on three counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, all second-degree felonies, and one count of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony.
His two-day jury trial is scheduled to commence Feb. 23 with the next pretrial hearing set for Jan. 14.
Celina Police went to the Goyman home Oct. 20 armed with a search warrant after someone apparently found a digital camera containing images of minors in compromising situations and made allegations of suspected activity involving an 11-year-old girl.
Officers reportedly seized computer equipment as well as 50 to 60 CDs, floppy discs and videos containing similar images.
He remains incarcerated at the Mercer County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond.
Goyman faces the possibility of up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine on each pandering charge in the event he is convicted. The gross sexual imposition charge carries the likelihood of up to an additional five years in prison and a $10,000 fine upon conviction. |
