| The Rev. Thomas Brenberger, a pastor at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, places ashes in the form of a cross on the forehead of a parishioner during Mass this morning. Today is the start of the 40 days of Lent before Easter. Ashes, made from last year’s burnt palms, are a biblical symbol of mourning and penance. The ashes also remind people of their mortality in this time of preparation for Jesus’ death and resurrection. |
