06-16-03: Accident claims life of Darke
County woman |

A St. Marys man escaped injury in a Saturday morning accident that
claimed the life of a Greenville-area woman.
The accident occurred at 6:55 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 127 and
Warvel Road in rural Darke County.
Rita J. Darner, 62, 6119 Beamsville-Union City Road, was northbound on
U.S. 127 when her 2002 Chrysler Concord drifted left of center. It collided with a
southbound Rumpke refuse truck driven by Joseph W. Remaklus, 149 Farnsworth Drive, St.
Marys.
Darner was taken by ambulance to Wayne Hospital, Greenville, and later
transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, where she died early Sunday morning.
Remaklus was not injured.
Investigating officers were not available this morning to indicate
whether either driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Information from
the sheriff's office also did not indicate the age of Remaklus.
The accident remains under investigation. This marks the fifth fatality
on Darke County roads this year. |
